- Alan Frazier (Founder and Managing Partner): Mr. Frazier assists with evaluating biopharma, medical device and growth equity investments. He has been integrally involved in growing several successful early-stage life science companies into national prominence-such as Immunex, Affymax and Affymetrix-and he has secured premiere deal flow through early-stage investments such as Tularik and CV Therapeutics on behalf of Frazier Healthcare. Currently, Mr. Frazier serves on several boards and is the Chairman of the Strategic International Committee of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and is the Chairman of the University of Washington Medicine Industry Advisory Committee.
Prior to forming Frazier Healthcare Ventures, Mr. Frazier was the executive vice president and chief financial officer of Immunex Corporation. Later, he served as the senior financial advisor and chief financial officer of Affymax and worked on the spinout of Affymetrix. Prior to Immunex, Mr. Frazier was head of the Emerging Business Practice and co-head of the Technology Practice for the Seattle office of Arthur Young Company (now, Ernst & Young). Mr. Frazier holds a B.A. in economics from the University of Washington. Mr. Frazier also serves on the Board of Trustees and is the Chairman of the Strategic International Committee of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and is the Chairman of the University of Washington Medicine Industry Advisory Committee. Additionally, he serves on the WBBA, BIO21 and Western Washington University Foundation Boards and is an Advisory Council member for the J. David Gladstone Institute, which is associated with the University of California.
- Nader J. Naini (General Partner): Mr. Naini joined Frazier Healthcare shortly after inception in 1991 and has been a General Partner and served on the firm's management committee since 1995. Mr. Naini leads the firm's growth equity investment practice and continues to selectively invest in late stage biopharma and medical device companies. Historically, he has been involved with several of the firm's biopharma investments. More recently, Mr. Naini was chairman of the board of Aspen Education Group and served on the board of CHG Healthcare Services. He currently serves on the boards of Bariatric Partners, Bravo by Elder Health, La Jolla Pharmaceuticals, Priority Solutions, ppoNEXT, Pentec Health and ZONARE Medical Systems. Prior to joining Frazier Healthcare, Mr. Naini was with Goldman Sachs & Co. New York. Mr. Naini received his M.B.A. from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University and a B.A. in molecular biology from the University of Pennsylvania.
- Nathan R. Every, M.D., MPH (General Partner): Dr. Every is a cardiologist who has been with Frazier healthcare since 1999, became a partner in 2001 and General Partner in 2005. Dr. Every is responsible for evaluating opportunities in the medical device and biotech sectors. He founded and was start-up CEO for MacuSight, an ocular disease therapy company that was incubated at Frazier Healthcare. Dr. Every currently serves on the boards of directors at Apneon, Inc., BaroSense, Inc., BARRX, Inc., FlowCardia, Inc., InnerPulse, Inc., Juniper, MacuSight, PowerVision, Seattle Medical Technologies, Synecor LLC, and Xoft, Inc. He is also an observer on the board of Alexza Pharmaceuticals. Prior to joining the Frazier Healthcare, Dr. Every was an associate professor of medicine and the director of the Cardiovascular Outcomes Research Center (CORC) at the University of Washington. Dr. Every earned an M.D. from Emory University School of Medicine and a master of public health (M.P.H.) degree from the University of Washington School of Public Health, and he is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular medicine.
- Trevor J. Moody (General Partner): Mr. Moody is responsible for evaluating investment opportunities in the medical device sector. He joined Frazier Healthcare 1999 as a Vice President, became Partner in 2001 and General Partner in 2005. Mr. Moody's industry experience is in medical device R&D and as a management consultant. Mr. Moody currently serves on the board of directors of Altiva Corporation, Ascension Orthopedics, Calypso Medical Technologies, Cardiac Dimensions, Cierra, EBR Systems, PatientKeeper, Pegasus BioLogics and Primaeva. He is also an observer on the board of CVRx. Additionally, Mr. Moody is a trustee of the Seattle Biomedical Research Institute. Prior to joining Frazier Healthcare, Mr. Moody was a management consultant with The Wilkerson Group. While at The Wilkerson Group, Mr. Moody led the firm's efforts in the medical device industry on the West Coast. His work included acquisitions assessment, market opportunity reviews and strategic consulting assignments for many start-up and large-cap medical device companies. Mr. Moody has also held R&D, product development and marketing positions at Telectronics and Ventritex, two successful medical device companies. While at Telectronics, Mr. Moody led product development teams that successfully gained FDA approval for three new cardiac devices. Mr. Moody holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (biomedical focus) from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia, and an MBA from MIT.
- Patrick Heron (General Partner): Mr. Heron is General Partner in the Palo Alto Office and joined Frazier Healthcare in 1999. He focuses on biotechnology and growth equity investments. Mr. Heron sits on the board and is a lead, first round investor in Avera, Informed Medical Communications, Marcadia, QuatRx, Tobira, Trubion (TRBN) and VentiRx. Mr. Heron also has lead responsibility for Chimerix, MedPointe and Panomics and led the first round of Cerexa (acquired by Forest Laboratories). Prior to joining Frazier Healthcare, Mr. Heron helped develop McKinsey & Co.'s West Coast biotechnology consulting practice. His projects included corporate strategy, M&A, product launch, sales force optimization, corporate partnering and research prioritization. He was a Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
- James N. Topper, M.D., Ph.D. (General Partner): Dr. Topper is responsible for investments within the biopharma sector. Dr Topper joined Frazier Healthcare in 2003 as a Venture Partner and became a General Partner in 2005. Since joining Frazier Healthcare, Dr. Topper has led multiple biopharma investments. In particular, he was responsible for the formation and financing of Arête Therapeutics, an innovative drug development company that is pursuing preclinical and clinical development of lead compounds directed at a novel proprietary target for cardiovascular and inflammatory disorders. In addition, Dr Topper led Frazier Healthcare's investment in Cotherix (Nasdaq CTRX) which was acquired by Actelion for $420M. Dr. Topper currently serves on the boards of Amicus Therapeutics (Nasdaq FOLD), Arête Therapeutics, Calistoga Pharmaceuticals, Intradigm Corporation, La Jolla Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq LJPC), Zelos Therapeutics, Inc., and is an observer on the board of Portola Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Topper is also an advisory board member to the Harvard-Partners Center for Genetics and Genomics. Prior to joining Frazier Healthcare, he served as head of the cardiovascular research and development franchise at Millennium Pharmaceuticals and ran Millennium San Francisco (formerly COR Therapeutics). Prior to the merger of COR and Millennium, Dr. Topper served as the Vice President of Biology at COR and was responsible for managing all of its research activities. He served on the faculties of Stanford Medical School and Harvard Medical School prior to joining COR, where he functioned as a clinician, instructor and basic investigator. Dr. Topper received his M.D. and Ph.D. (in Biophysics) from Stanford University School of Medicine in 1991 under the auspices of the Medical Scientist Training Program. He completed his postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and is board certified in both disciplines. After completing a research fellowship in the Vascular Research Division in the department of Pathology at the Brigham and Women's hospital, he joined the faculty of Harvard Medical School from 1997 to 1998, and subsequently Stanford University as an Assistant Professor of Medicine (Cardiovascular) in July 1998. He has authored over 50 publications and was the recipient of a Howard Hughes Scholars Award while on the faculty at Stanford University. He continues to hold an appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Stanford University and as a Cardiology Consultant to the Palo Alto Veterans Administration Hospital.
